Edge and Bing store different things. To clear your Bing searches, clear them from bing.com/profile/history or the Microsoft privacy dashboard. To clear what Edge remembers, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear. Do both for a clean slate.
Because Edge uses Bing by default, it's easy to assume one button clears everything. It doesn't: your searches are saved by Bing (to your Microsoft account or to a Bing cookie), while the pages you open are saved by Edge.
Step 1: Clear your Bing searches
- In Edge, open bing.com/profile/history.
- If you're signed in with a Microsoft account, select Clear all; you'll be taken to the privacy dashboard to confirm.
- If you're signed out, Clear all removes the searches saved on this browser.
Step 2: Clear Edge's browsing data (Windows and Mac)
- Select the … menu (Settings and more) > Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
- Pick a Time range (choose All time for everything).
- Tick Browsing history. Add Cookies and other site data if you also want to sign out of sites and reset the signed-out Bing list.
- Select Clear now.
Shortcut: press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac) to jump straight to that window.
If you're signed in to Edge with sync on, clearing browsing data also clears it on your other synced devices. Edge tells you this in the clear window.
Clear it automatically when you close Edge
In the same settings section, open Choose what to clear every time you close the browser and switch on Browsing history (and cookies, if you like). This handles Edge's side. For Bing's side, turn search history off.
Edge on Android and iPhone
- Tap the … menu at the bottom > Settings > Privacy and security.
- Tap Clear browsing data, choose what to remove, and confirm.
- Then open bing.com/profile/history in Edge to clear your Bing searches as in Step 1.
Suggestions in the Edge address bar
When you type in the address bar, Edge mixes pages from your browsing history with Bing suggestions. Clearing browsing history removes the first kind. For the rest, see how to remove Bing search suggestions.
Copilot in the Edge sidebar
Conversations with Copilot in Edge are saved to your Copilot history, not to Edge or Bing search history. Delete them as shown in Copilot chat history.
Frequently asked questions
Does clearing Edge history delete my Bing history?
No. Edge's browsing history and Bing search history are stored separately. Clear each one.
Can I use InPrivate to avoid saving searches?
Yes. In an InPrivate window Edge doesn't keep browsing history, and Bing doesn't add searches to your account history while you're signed out. Your network, school or employer may still see which sites you visit.
