Not completely: Bing is built into Windows search and Microsoft Edge. You can switch off Bing web results in the taskbar search with the DisableSearchBoxSuggestions policy, change Edge's default search engine, and hide news and widgets. The same steps work on Windows 11.

1. Turn off Bing web results in taskbar search
- Press Win+R, type
regedit, press Enter. Back up the registry first (File > Export). - Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer. Create theExplorerkey if it doesn't exist. - Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named
DisableSearchBoxSuggestionsand set it to1. - Sign out and back in (or restart).
On Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro you can use the Group Policy Editor instead: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer > Turn off display of recent search entries in the File Explorer search box > Enabled.
On older Windows 10 versions, setting BingSearchEnabled to 0 under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search did the same job.
2. Change Edge's search engine
- In Edge, open Settings and search for search engine (it's under Privacy, search, and services > Address bar and search).
- Set Search engine used in the address bar to Google, DuckDuckGo or another engine.
- Optionally set Search on new tabs to use the address bar.
3. Change your default browser
In Windows 11: Settings > Apps > Default apps, choose your browser and select Set default. In Windows 10: Settings > Apps > Default apps > Web browser. Chrome and Firefox use Google by default, although you can pick any engine.
4. Hide news and widgets
Windows 11: right-click the taskbar > Taskbar settings > turn off Widgets. Windows 10: right-click the taskbar > News and interests > Turn off.

Frequently asked questions
Can I uninstall Bing like an app?
No. Bing is a web service used by Windows and Edge, not a single app. The Microsoft Bing app on phones and any Bing toolbar can be uninstalled normally.
Will Windows updates turn Bing back on?
The policy setting normally survives updates. Check the taskbar search after major feature updates.
